How To Train Your Dragon is an adaptation of DreamWorks animated film. The show is based on the book by Author Cressida Cowell. The show is about a boys relationship with his father while Vikings and dragons try to live together. The dragons have names like Night Fury and Red Death. It took 50-member creative team 2 years to complete the 23 fire beathing dragons.

The young boy is named Hiccup and lives in a land where dragons are feared and killed.

“It’s about a young boy standing up for what he believes in and it’s about a father learning to listen to his son,” Morgan said. “And it’s about learning to accept differences.

“I think of (How to Train Your Dragon) as a four-dimensional play. The audience becomes immersed in the action, even feeling the heat from the flames. I reach beyond (the conventional stage) to address the audience directly a number of times.”

Rafael Nadal's knee injury continues to interfere with his tennis career. The injury caused him to withdraw from carrying the Spanish flag at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Also, he was forced to pull out of the 2012 Rogers Cup and the 2012 Western & Southern Open. And unfortunately for Nadal fans everywhere, he has announced that he won't be ready to play in the 2012 US Open. A recent message on his Twitter account confirms the withdrawal, reading “I am very sad to announce that I am not ready to play the US Open in NY. Thanks to my fans for their support and especially, the New Yorkers.” The 11 time Grand Slam winner is hopeful to be back on the court as soon as he feels his condition is adequate enough to compete again. The US Open will be held August 27 through September 9, 2012. View tickets for the 2012 US Open here.

10 Ways To Compose Music More Effectively

To contact us Click HERE
songwriting image from Bobby Owsinski's Big Picture production blogMarcel Thomas recently had a wonderful post on Music Think Tank regarding "8 Ways To Compose Music More Effectively." You can read the entire article to get Marcel's take on the first 8, but I added a couple of extra points that I found to be particularly useful.

1) Don’t disregard your ideas too quickly2) Write something every day3) Go for a walk before you start composing4) Listen to your music with fresh ears5) Write out a structure6) Seek the advice of other musicians and friends7) Write in a style you have never done before8) Learn from other composers, songwriters and producers

9) Don't feel you have to be perfect right away. Too many writers feel that if they don't have a masterpiece right way, the song is no good. While some writers are lucky enough to channel a hit in 10 minutes, that doesn't happen the vast majority of the time. It takes some time and work to polish your idea. Which brings us to:

10) Don't be afraid to refine what you first wrote. While your initial ideas may be the best, the entire song probably isn't. It can take a lot of passes before you get it right, so don't feel like you might be losing some of your mojo by doing a rewrite or two or five.Songwriting is just like any other creative endeavor. For all but the lucky few, it takes time and effort to polish an idea into a song that other people want to hear.

What To Change When Things Don't Sound Right

To contact us Click HERE
Miking A Marshall Cabinet image from Bobby Owsinski's Big Picture blogRecording is an interesting business in that each situation is unique. When it comes to music, the song, the arrangement, the players, the performances, the signal chain, and the acoustic environment all vary in one way or another each and every session.

Because of this uniqueness, there are times when you're recording when you find that a part doesn't fit well in a track, or fits too well where it can't be distinguished. Here's a list of things to try in order of importance the next time you run in to either situation.
  • Change the source (the instrument you are miking)
  • Change the mic placement
  • Change the placement in the room
  • Change the mic
  • Change the mic preamplifier
  • Change the mount of compression and/or limiting (from none to a lot)
  • Change the room (the actual room you are recording in)
  • Change the musician
  • Come back and try it another day
Take notice that nowhere one there is there mention of equalization. Unless you have a lot of experience, it's best to follow the above points before you ever reach for an EQ knob. You'll be surprised how much better things can sound.
