Born in Mechanicsville, Virginia, Jason Thomas Mraz is a lyricist and singer of genres such as pop rock, blue eyed soul and alternative rock. Born to a Czech family, Mraz always stresses that he had an ideal childhood despite the split of his parents when he was four. He is one of the leading members of VH1’s “Save the Music” foundation and “Free the Children”. In 2010, Jason Mraz was awarded the SIMA Humanitarian of the Year award.

In 2001, Mraz entered the music scene by recording a live concert at a coffee house and released the album. His first album was “Live at Java Joe”, but the album never received commercial success.  His second album came in 2002 following his contract with Electra Records. The album titled “Waiting for my Rocket to Come” was a commercial hit and debuted at #55 of the Billboard Top 200. “The Remedy” was his most successful song and was rated at 15 on the Billboard list. ”Curbside Prophet” and “I’ll Do Anything” were the other hits in the album. In 2005, Mraz released his next album with collaboration with Atlantic records. The album was an instant hit and he received three Grammy nominations including Best Engineered Album, Non Classical and Producer of the Year. “Life is Wonderful”, a song from the album, became an instant hit worldwide.

In 2006, Mraz performed live at the Mosaic Music Festival held at Singapore. In the same year, he toured the UK, the US and Ireland. This new live recorded album was released in December 2006 and was called “Selections for Friends”. Also, Mraz's voice and lyrics were used in the show "Ugly Betty" and the soundtrack "Beauty in Ugly".

Jason later recorded with Mandy Moore and produced background vocals for the song “Slummin' in Paradise” in 2007. In 2008, Mraz released his new album “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” following his tour with Bushwalla and the Makepeace Brothers. The album held the number 3 spot on Billboard 200 after it's release. In 2009 a new song by Mraz titled “Try Try Try” was leaked and illegally uploaded over the internet. Michael Squire later released the song in 2010 and it became a big hit. In the same year, Mraz worked with Dido and wrote songs for his new album along with producer and friend Martin Terefe.

The song “I Am Yours” was also a big hit and helped Mraz to gain popularity outside America. The album sold enough copies worldwide to have it certified Gold by RIAA, and received Grammy nominations. Up until now, Mraz has been nominated for 5 Grammys and has won on two occasions. He won Grammys in 2010 for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Collaborations with Vocals.

On April 17th 2012, Mraz released his latest album called "Love is a Four Letter Word". His 2012 tour called "Tour is a Four Letter Word" was just recently announced, and will feature performer Christina Perri. The tour will begin on August 1st, 2012 in Honolulu, HI.
